“Its head appears too small for its body and it looks more like a squat, grumpy blob than a living creature.”
- the BBC
It has been around since the time of the dinosaur, but was discovered only in 2003. It's discovery marked the first new finding of a new family of amphibians since 1926. Scientists believe that the family has been around for 130 million years and that the purple frog is the last representative... but you never really know.
Instead of hopping around like most frogs, it is a squirmy little bugger that runs really fast. It burrows underground and feasts on termites. It's thought only to go up to land during monsoon season to do it.
I love its lack of neck.
On the EDGE blog, you can see footage of the little bugger http://www.edgeofexistence.org/edgeblog/?p=760.html
